Collins Sussman Residence

This house is located in Chicago’s Wicker Park National Historic District. The owners wanted a sustainably designed renovation. No external changes are allowed in the historic district, but sustainable features on the interior include hydronic radiant floor heating, bamboo flooring, and energy and water efficient fixtures. In 2004, the owners decided to re-clad the exterior; working with the City of Chicago Landmarks Preservation Council, photos from the early 1900’s were found and were used to guide the restoration to its original look with cedar siding and a new front porch. To accommodate a growing family, in 2011 a garage with a roof deck was added, as well as a new master bathroom and a new bedroom on the second floor.
